(This is in a Gray Fox's point of view.)
This place was good enough for me. Why should life here ever end? Here in the forest, the life here was happy, free, and caring. That is, until people cut down trees for homes. What would you feel, if people cut down trees from your home and all the air pollution could not be taken away by the trees? I am getting mad about this. People tried to save the forest, but to no avail.
I, for one, was happy here until then. People should care more about us. No plants, no animals who eat the plants. No animals who eat the plants, no people. There, it’s as simple as that. Why do people not get the point? I think it is as clear as water. I am sad. I thought people could be more trustful. Now I know. One day people from... I don't know, a place, came here, hunters. They shot animals with what they call bullets. This is what happened. My mother, she was a nice Gray Fox. Was, that is.
A hunter saw us darting into the forest. After quite a chase, he stopped and headed another way. I have been trying to take care of myself without my mother, in case she was gone. I did not know how soon that day would come. He surprised us and held up his gun and shot. I was not hit. However, when I looked at my side, my mother was lying motionless. Her eyes were closed. I nudged her. No response.
I knew what happened. She was dead. You don't know the grief that overcame me. I stared, then leaped at the hunter. He hit me on the head with the end of his gun. He knocked me out. When I woke up, I was in a cage, and I was silent. I was put in a place where there were many other animals. They were either weak or tired.
I was sold, yes. But my master loved me, since I was just five months old then. I grew, and she did not care for me. She just ignored me. I know why. I was not little any more. Some people only adopt wild animals because they are cute when they are small. Some people then confiscated me and now I have a safe place, for my old home was not. My mother... I often remember her risking her life to save me. But then... I am glad. I wouldn't have gotten this safe place to live in.
