Why is it in the barracks, the fire alarms always seam to go off in the middle of the night? I've been through about 25 false alarms, since joining the military, and everyone has been between 0100-0300 (1am-3am, for you civilians). This morning ours went off 0245 (2:45am), and we stood outside for 1 hr in the rain, waiting for the fire trucks to arrive. This time (1st) it wasn't a false alarm, there was alot of smoke on the 1st floor (though they never determined the cause). It was pretty amusing to see 30 wet (they just don't know how to deal with the rain), bedraggled soldiers standing in formation.

Sounds hilarious >:]

And...that's a bummer having to wake just to walk outside for a false alarm. I bet it's irritating.

( I really had no idea what to post, but you have such a well written post I wanted to respond ^^ )

How long have you been in the military? If you don't mind me asking, of course.

Wow...that's happened to me before..I was at a nautre camp and, in the dark of the night, the fire alarm screetches. Everyone in my cabin thought it was my 4th grade teacher's whistle, she had used it earlier non-stop..But, we all got up...around 1am-ish, and went outside. It was the season where it's cold enough for snow, but none is on the ground and it is unbelieveably freezing. So, one of the moms call someone on their cellphone..and everybody is wiping the sleep out of their eyes...

I don't remember anything else froom there....lol...

It's so cool that you have time to use the computer...from what I've heard from teachers they say that it's all work..

or on campus blocks just those mornings you can sleep in long, or otherwise in general in this block who got a noisier one then i ever heard before

went off once while in voice chat, BF go what is THAT? me : firealarm, this not really bad, if i open the door out to comon area it will be worse

second time it went off while voice chat, BF that thing better not go off while i am there visiting or else...(didnt catch the rest, think something like smashing it or such)

words really cant describe it, its bad really bad in my room when door is shut, moving out in comon area its beyond bad

it goes on for a couple min before it shuts itself off and is always false alarm of course, (we just go out on the porch and look for smoke, the building is concrete, so unless we're in danger of smoke toxication we wont die from a fire in this building anyhow, not before being alerted in good time by firetruck sirenes that we need to get out cause its the real deal this time)

I never mind questions...so feel free to ask any that is on your mind......and thank you for the compliment-Kat66!!

I've been in the Army for almost 2 yrs now. I am a 92G (golf), which is a cook (or a food service specialist). Though sometmes it is difficult to find computer time with work, formations (though us cooks are often excused due to our hours), field, and weapon/vehicle maintainence, I'm on most of the time everyother day. I work on average 8 hrs a day 5 days (Mon-Fri), and everyother weekend (1 day) for 12 hrs. The Army is pretty much just a regular job (only they cannot "fire" you). I thrive on the challenges....on Thanksgiving we cooked and served for over 1400 people. On average we (there is about 15 92Gs on shift) serve for about 500 soldiers, 3 meals a day.

I thought this is kind of funny Sterling, my battle buddy's name is Sterling...LOL, he was with me in AIT (Advance Individual Training) in Virginia and he left Sept, 06. I left 6 months later (due to a hip injury) for Texas and he was there working in the same DFAC (dining facility) as me. Come to find out he is in the same Unit as well. It's a small world I guess.

So it happens on campus, too....maybe it is a conspericy.
